My Bucket List

If you’ve seen the movie (and I actually have not), a ‘bucket list’ is list of things you want to do before you die, ie “kick the bucket.”
It’s interesting because as I get older (I’ll be 39 in August), I start to see the window of opportunity on doing certain things or going certain places, slowly starting to close. In a perfect world, I’ll live for another 40-45 years and have plenty of time to do these things. But since we don’t know when God is going to decide it is our time to go home, it takes on a slightly more ‘urgent’ tone to want to check off those things on that list.
As a photographer, I tend to think in that mode. Where do I want to go that would afford me some awesome photographic opportunities? As a Christ follower, I look at it in those terms as well and as a drummer, I see it like that as well. Without further ado, here is my bucket list (with some descriptions):
1. Visit the Grand Canyon – Everybody I have spoken to who has been there has said that no photograph can do it justice. You have to be there to see it in person to really get the impact of just how awesome it is.
2. Visit Israel – I want to walk in the places that Jesus walked. Visit the places Jesus went. That’s it basically. Talk about your history.
3. Play the drums in studio – I think it would be really cool to play a song on my IPod or in the car and say, “Hey, I’m playing drums on that song.”
4. Have a sit down dinner with Andy Stanley and James MacDonald – Over the last 3-4 years I have grown in my walk with the Lord, and aside from my church pastor Greg Peters (who I’ve broken bread with many times), these two men have impacted me in a major way. These two drop wisdom the way Ali used to drop opponents.
5. Vacation in Europe with my wife – We both have specifically said we’d love to be able to hang out in the Tuscany region of Italy. Of course, we visit Rome but northern Italy is where its at.
6. Jam with AC/DC and play ‘Back In Black.’ – This may look a little strange what with all the bands I could have chosen. But there’s reasons. A. That album is one of the greatest hard rock albums of all time (22 million copies sold). It is nearly 30 years old and is not dated. B. That song is one of the first I learned to play on the drums. It’s basic 4/4, but Phil Rudd had way of making it seem more complicated. The guy is so good.
So there you have it. What about you? What are some things on your ‘bucket’ list?
UPDATE: Joel has his own thoughts on about bucket lists.

1. Visit Europe with Jay.
2. Visit Israel.
3. Go on a road trip on the West Coast.
4. See both of my kids baptized, married, have kids.
5. Run a bed and breakfast.
Jay, I was just looking at some tweets and saw this one about your bucket list. The odd thing is, I just posted something on my blog this morning about my bucket list! Ironic!
I like your no.5 – wouldn't that be awesome! We would love to do that, too. And no.4 was interesting because I know James' younger brother and we use to hang out a lot at a Baptist camp here in Canada (where James sometimes comes to speak).
1. Visit Italy, Venice especially
2. Visit Israel
3. Touch every ocean.
4 Be in the midst when revival breaks out
5. Ride a zip line.
6. Sing background vocals for an awesome worship band.
6 items gives you ~7 years per item..I bet you can squeeze in more than that. Of course you don't have 42 years to jam w/ AC/DC…better make that one first haha.
Jay, I just noticed that you haven't see the movie yet. You REALLY should see the movie. You won't regret it.

No way! That's too cool. Our small group is watching the 'Lord Change My Attitude' series and it was recorded at a camp in Canada. I wonder if its the same place.
